The Gist: While attending a party at James Franco’s house, Seth Rogen, Jay Baruchel and many other celebrities are faced with the apocalypse.
The Actors: James Franco, Jay Baruchel, Seth Rogen, Craig Robinson, Jonah Hill, Danny McBride, Emma Watson, Michael Cera
My Take: This is the second movie on my 2013 must see list and I really enjoyed. It wasn’t great, I wasn’t laughing my ass off but I liked it. Jay Baruchel is in L.A. visiting Seth Rogan and reluctantly ends up at James Franco’s house along with numerous other celebrities including the above mentioned and many more. Jay hates L.A. and starts to get pissy with Seth (he dragged him to the party then ditched him) when all hell breaks loose. Fire rains from the sky, the ground opens up and some beloved Hollywood faces meet their demise. Danny McBride was defiantly one of the best players, playing himself but Michael Cera’s appearance very funny. Basically the story is about the apocalypse but more so the fractured friendship between Jay and Seth as Seth has become more Hollywood than Jay. Add in many, many references to cum, Jay talking about getting all rapey, Hermione being a bad ass with an ax, an exorcism and a giant cock and you have This Is The End.
Final Thoughts: I liked this flick quite a lot. I always enjoy watching actors play themselves and I like the whole end of the world and no one is safe from doom thing. There is one cameo that I won’t reveal that occurs near the end and it was freaking funny. The one complaint I have is the last scene. I didn’t care for it and it oozed pure cheese. Other than that, go see it!
