Writing and Reviews – Denise Pasutti
No, not that terrible movie with Marky, Marky – rather where have I been and what is going on these days. I wouldn’t say I have writer’s block in the sense that I’m blocked creatively. I have the ideas, even written outlines which is odd for me. I suppose you could say it’s mental fatigue and this last week that has been couple with physical fatigue from migraines. It’s strange how tired being in continuous pain can make you. The mental fatigue comes from my full-time job. March is most stressful month at work and it will continue for at least another 3 weeks. I’m so busy doing my day job that when I finish, the last thing I want to do is look at a computer or try to think at all. Excuses, yes that’s what these are. I’m going to try to create a routine in hopes that it will help me to focus and get back doing what I love writing.
Here’s what has been happening over the past month or so. Yes, I could be writing but most of these require no thought except for the writing of course.
*Bird Box by Josh Malerman: Interesting story and creepy because you have no idea what is to be feared
*The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins: Comparisons to Gone Girl but I’m on the fence about this one. I liked it but I didn’t think it was as clever as Gone Girl and the main character in this one was unlikable because she was weak unlike Amy and Nick in Gone Girl who were just bad people.
*Coffin Hill (Graphic novel): An interesting witchy tale that is simple to read. No thinking involved.
*Crossed (Graphic novels): Graphic doesn’t even begin to describe this horror show that no one should subject their minds or eyes to. Disturbing, disgusting, revolting yet captivating in its depravity. Not for those sensitive to violence and human suffering.
*Kingsman: This was quite enjoyable. Full of action and quick wit. I rather liked Colin Firth in this flick.
*What We Do In The Shadows: A mockumentary I guess it could be called about a camera crew filming the daily or rather nightly routines of 4 vampires who are flatmates.
*Prisoners: A long movie with an upsetting story but I really liked it.
*The Quiet Ones: Forgettable.
*Black Sails: The second season of the pirate drama is coming to an end tonight and just when it was getting good. It has been a slow season but the finale looks like it’s going to be amazing with new alliances formed.
*Justified: The final season will concluding April 14 and so far it has been a great one.
*The Walking Dead: Also coming to the end of the season tomorrow and again, just when it was getting good. Rick is out of control and I can’t wait to see how he is handled.
Murdered: Soul Suspect, Outlast (damn game is scary), Bloodborne (just started, only died once! After playing for about 30 minutes).
*A Good Soldier: My last chapter was going to be just that, the last chapter however, it’s not done. I know that now. I have a few directions I’m considering going and will figure out where to take it after I write what’s circling my brain for Louis and his band of rogues.
*Aftermath: This is intended to be a short story and it has finally begun after experimenting with a couple of different openings.
*Red Morning: This is in the outline process. I have the characters ready, their back grounds and the general idea of what the story is about but it’s the damn beginning again. I will have to work through how to start it. I need to stop worrying about the rules of writing and just write first, worry later.
That’s that. I will be making more of effort and I believe that after the next couple of weeks, my head will be clearer and I will be able to focus more. I bid you adieu…for now.
