Burning leaves….one of the smells of Autumn and October. Walking to the mall this morning that smell floated through the air marking the
beginning of the best month of the year. Why is it the best month of the year…the colours are amazing. Oranges, reds even the brown of dying leaves and the green of grass being given life again after the stifling heat (well not so much this year in Victoria) of the summer before dying again in the cold of the winter (again, not so much in Victoria). That smell though is one of October. Soon, we’ll have the smells of Thanksgiving with the turkey and pumpkin pie. The days are getting shorter, the air is getting cooler. I love the balance of cool and warm air; that even when the sun is shining it is still cool enough to need a jacket without being too hot. October is also the month of Halloween, All Hallow’s Eve, the night when the veil between the living and dead is the thinnest. This coupled with the dying foliage…it’s wonderful. The colours and scents of the season make it the most interesting and sensory month of the year.
